A Conversation with Johnny Clegg

Nearly forty years after he began one of music’s most remarkable careers, Johnny Clegg is embarking on his Final World Tour, titled The Final Journey. With his bands Juluka and Savuka, Clegg pioneered a uniquely South African hybrid music during a time of cultural and racial segregation. His music offered a vision of how South Africans could find each other and come together. Grammy-winning "Soul Queen" Irma Thomas is joined by six-time Grammy-winning The Blind Boys of Alabama and The Preservation Legacy Quintet for a performance that will raise your spirits. Jazz lectures
Preconcert Jazz Lectures with Bob Blumenthal 
All lectures will be held in the Davis Room, 2nd floor of the Berklee Performance Center. All jazz lectures are held an hour before the concerts begins.

Preperformance Dance Lectures with Debra Cash
All lectures will be held in the café space of the Institute for Contemporary Art, Boston. All dance lectures are held 30 minutes before the performances begin.

Song of Lahore follows the story of The Sachal Ensemble on their journey from Pakistan to New York City to perform with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.Film screening tickets available here

Watch the film on October 23, and then see the live performance on October 29 as the group covers Western jazz standards with Pakistani classical instruments. The Sachal Ensemble's Boston debut concert will take place Sunday, October 29 at the Berklee Performance Center. The West African country of Mali is the birthplace of the Blues, a musical tradition later carried during the transatlantic slave trade to America. Mali Blues follows the story of four contemporary Malian artists who bridge their musical heritages with contemporary influences.Film screening tickets available here.
